Story

Someone in the music industry was dangling a publishing contract over my head, but he also wanted to sleep with me. He was married and I couldn't do it-pretty much suffered a nervous breakdown as a result but before that happened I wrote this song-I guess I gave myself lyrical permission. Growing up my dad always had "Road and Track" and "Car and Driver" around so the auto references just flowed out of me. I love singing this song because it's so sexy and bad.....

There are two versions of this song. One on my self-titled CD (that was also played on the show Dog the Bounty Hunter) and this version, which is on "Round 3" This version is a little grittier....

Lyrics

Drive by Leslie Nuss

I’m about to swerve so look out

I’m about to lose control

I’m about to hit my target

I’m about to go below

I’m going to lay back and enjoy the ride

Do you want to drive

I’m about to blow my cover

I’m about to come undone

I’m about to scrape my kneecaps

Looking out for #1

I’m going to lay back and enjoy the ride

Do you want to drive

Do you want to drive

Even if I can’t see the light

I won’t go down without a fight

I’d give you anything

I’d give you everything for

Free

You run at my speed I like that

I think you could push on through

I’m about to give it up now

High performance up to you

I’m going to lay back and enjoy the ride

Do you want to drive

Do you want to drive

I’m going to lay back and enjoy the ride

Do you want to

Lay back and enjoy the ride

Do you want to

Lay back and enjoy the ride

Do you want to drive

Do you want to drive

Do you want to

Do you want to

Do you want to drive

Do you want to drive

Zen Meditation by Leslie Nuss

Sometimes your mind plays tricks on you

You forget about what you want to do

You think you can’t try something new

But forget about forget about it

You stop and think about what was said

Words float around inside of your head

You think you’d rather stay safe in bed

But forget about forget about it

Do not think about it focus on the task at hand

Life is after all just a zen meditation

Do not think about it focus on the task at hand

Life is after all just a zen meditation

Sometimes things seem to be all wrong

You wonder if you can hold on

You start to think that you’re not so strong

Just forget about forget about it

Sometimes you think you cannot see

Where it is you need to be

You think you need divine prophecy

But forget about forget about it

Do not think about it focus on the task at hand

Life is after all just a zen meditation

Do not think about it focus on the task at hand

Life is after all just a zen meditation

You can understand it if you really try—don’t think about it

You can understand it if you really try

Don’t listen to what anybody tells you

You’re the only one who controls your destiny

Turn on tune in drop out is what they used to say

Many years have come and gone but you can learn to live today

Into the future the only place that you can go

You want to move ahead everybody seems so slow

Don’t lose your focus stick to what you know is true

Everything will come together do the things you need to do

—zen meditation

Do not think about it focus on the task at hand

Life is after all just a zen meditation

Do not think about it focus on the task at hand

Life is after all just a zen meditation

Story

Well, I was staying in Amsterdam after running my first marathon and my friends had left me alone in their apartment while they went on a scuba diving vacation. The first thing I did was ask someone I knew who was living there to take me to a hash bar to get a bit of mind altering inspiration. Then, for the next week I proceeded to play my guitar loudly most of the day. I was worried that the neighbors would be upset but ran into a couple who said they enjoyed it..love Amsterdam!

This song came out of that jaunt. It's how I felt at the time-it's sort of a play on "Love not Money" but at the time I was feeling particularly free...I really love the jam at the end. When I listen to it now, the end has a "Cream" feeling to it...so fun to play live!

Lyrics

Experience Not Money by Leslie Nuss

I want experience not money

Give me experience not money

I want to know how the world looks in your eyes

I want to be the one to tell you it’s alright

When something has got you down

I want experience not money

Give me experience not money

I want experience not money

Give me experience not money

I want to know how it feels to wake up next to you

I want to breathe in the air you breathe

Flow right into you

I want experience not money

Give me experience not money

And I found out

I get what I want

And I found out

I am free

Hey
