  1. Shook Me

From the recording Shook Me

I had a good friend named Bridget. Bridget and I both had/have children with severe disabilities and that is how we met. We became good friends over children and providing arts and crafts for children with disabilities and their siblings as part of a social group called Club Wonder.
In the summer of 2012, Bridget started to complain of stomach pain and had tests that seemed to be inconclusive. In January of 2013 her husband took her to the ER where she was correctly diagnosed with stage IV gastric cancer. The cancer was so advanced that she died 31 days later. A friend and I had visited her and not knowing how long she had, I went back two days later with my guitar but quickly realized she was at the end. Saying goodbye to her was so hard, such a shock...after I left she passed about 15 minutes later.
This song is about realizing it could have been me, and that we are all so lucky for the time we have here. The mess on the counter? Not a big deal. Most things: not a big deal. The best way to honor Bridget is to live the best life I can. And so should you!

Lyrics

What shouldnta been   has come to pass
No one says     life will last
Some people just get longer

To ache is understood grievin’s right
Time to live an’ put up a fight
It only makes you stronger

Cold water on my face
Taken from this place
Cold water on my face
Shook Me
Shook Me

Give me the torch    I was born to run
Every day’s life in the sun
The pain will make it better

Now’s time to live not time to die
After I run you will see me fly
The rock is now a feather

Cold water on my face
Taken from this place
Cold water on my face
Shook Me
Shook Me

My eyes have been opened
The words have been spoken
My eyes have been opened
My heart has been broken
       for me
Do it for me

Cold water on my face
Taken from this place
Cold water on my face
Shook Me, Oh

Cold water on my face
I’m standing here through grace
Cold water on my face
Shook Me
Shook Me
Shook Me
Shook Me
